LONGVIEW, Texas – The Centenary College volleyball team (3-16) dropped a pair of matches Saturday, October 3, to LeTourneau (5-13) 25-21, 24-26, 25-16, 25-13 and East Texas Baptist (14-3) 25-9, 25-17, 25-15.

Down a set to the host YellowJackets, the Ladies looked to square the match in set two. Tied at 24, freshman Michaela Brantley put Centenary on its second match point with a kill. Senior Christina NeSmith stepped to the service area, and an attack error gave the Maroon and White the set-tying win.

In the frame, senior Lindsey Long hit .625 with six kills and only one error on eight swings. Senior Rachel Perkins and sophomore Allison Lazewski each added eight assists, ending the match with 21 and 19. Freshman Hailey Lawson added seven digs in the frame, en route to finishing the match with a Ladies season-high 25 digs – the most by a Centenary player in more than two years.

Centenary outhit LeTourneau .205-.056 in the set, finding the floor on attacks 17 times to the YellowJackets eight.

With the Ladies up 5-4 in the third set, LeTourneau went on a 12-3 run to take control of the match. The YellowJackets took an 8-7 edge and scored the next 8-of-9. A Doleres Kroese kill and an ace from Korissa White built the lead to three. Morgan Weaver added a kill and another White Ace pushed the lead to 12-7. A service error gave the serve to Centenary, but a Kroese helped herself with a kill to put herself on serve. An ace, an assited block, and a Ronda kill put the home team up eight. They went on to win the set by nine and won the finale by 12 for the match.

Kroese led the way for LeTourneau with 11 kills and 12 digs. Despite recording more kills (47-45), Centenary fell at the battle at the net, 11-2.

The first match of the day, the Tigers flexed their muscles from the beginning in the straight-set win. East Texas Baptist registered 43 kills to Centenary’s 17, and outhit the Maroon and White .375-.011. Brantley added six kills and one error on 17 swings (.294) while Adaeze Elonu hit .500 for East Texas Baptist with eight kills and one error on 14 attempts.

The Ladies return to action Wednesday, October 7, at Jarvis Christian. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
