JACKSON, Miss. – The Ladies trailed by 37 in the fourth quarter before going on a 27-3 run, but it was not enough as Centenary (2-1) fell to Millsaps (1-2) 76-64 Sunday afternoon, November 20, in the Southern Athletic Association-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Classic.

Down 70-33 early in the fourth, Centenary shot 9-for-14 from the field and held Millsaps to just three points in an eight-minute span. Senior DeiAnna Hall split from the line. After a stop, freshman Essa Badon hit a triple. The Ladies went 4-for-4 from the line, and a senior Linda Gomez Gil three capped the 10 unanswered point run.

Millsaps responded with a three, but 17 straight for the Maroon and White on 7-for-9 shooting cut the deficit to 13. Gil made a layup and freshman Deunya Small split from the line. Junior Peyton Hurst made a three, and Small made a jumper. Gomez Gil split from the line, but Small grabbed the board and made the layup to cut the lead to under 20. Layups by Small and Hall, with a jumper from sophomore Jasmine Morris, brought Centenary within 73-60 with 1:49 left to play.

A sophomore Sheridan Smith layup brought Centenary within 11 with 13 seconds left, but Millsaps split from the line for the final 12-point margin.

The Ladies scored on 13-of-17 possessions during the 27-3 run.

Morris led Centenary with 16 points, and Hall added 12. Centenary shot 30.9 percent (21-for-68) from the field, but a 7-for-33 mark (21.2 percent) in the first half saw Centenary fall behind 37-19 at break.

The Ladies led 6-4 with 6:14 left in the first, but a 14-0 run by Millsaps in the next six minutes put the Majors lead to double-digits for good. Brazia Jones and Kala-Jewel Freeman each split from the line to put the home team in the lead, and a three from Caroline Guilbeau pushed the lead to 10-6. Kim Klunk made a jumper and Guilbeau made a three to make the lead 15-6. Braxton Thomas pushed the lead to double-digits when she hit 3-of-4 from the line.

Badon tried to stop the run for the Ladies with a jumper, but Klunk finished the first quarter with a three to put Millsaps up 21-8 after one.

Klunk led Millsaps with 20 points and 12 boards for the double-double. Jones added 12, while Millicent Butler chipped in 12.

Centenary returns to action Saturday when it travels to LeTourneau. Tip in Longview, Texas, is scheduled for 1 p.m.
