SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies and Majors blocked 25 total shots in the game as Centenary (2-5) fell to Millsaps (4-3) 58-46 Monday night, December 5.

Both teams combined for five blocks in the game’s first three minutes as neither team could put up points. After a Millsaps layup was rejected by freshman Deunya Small, sophomore Jasmine Morris hit a jumper to give the home team the first score of the game. After both teams went scoreless over the next three minutes, Kim Klunk made a layup for the visitors to tie it up. Morris answered right back with an old-fashioned three to put Centenary up 5-2 with 6:16 left in the first.

The Ladies were up 6-4, when a Millsaps 8-0 run put the visitors in the lead for good.

Morris led the Ladies with 14 points, while senior Linda Gomez Gil came off the bench for 10. Small scored no points, but grabbed 15 rebounds and added five blocks.

The Majors claimed a 31-22 lead at the break, but Centenary scored five quick points out of halftime thanks to a senior DeiAnna Hall three pointer and layup. Millsaps led 39-31 with 3:06 left in the third, but a 7-2 run by the Maroon and White brought the game back to one possession after three quarters. Gomez Gil split from the line. After a Millsaps turnover, Gomez Gil hit sophomore Savanah Doty for a fastbreak three. Braxton Thomas put Millsaps back up six, but Gomez Gil quickly hit Doty for another fastbreak triple.

Doty finished with eight points and four blocks.

Two free throws to begin the fourth by Morris cut the deficit to one, but Centenary climbed no closer. Millsaps went back up 45-40, but sophomore Erin Temple answered with a fastbreak three to push the game back to one possession. Kim Klunk put the Majors up 47-43 with a layup with 7:53 remaining in the game, and both teams went scoreless the next four minutes.

Both teams struggled from the field, as Centenary shot 22.7 percent (17-75) to Millsaps’ 32.8 percent (22-for-67).

In the final three minutes, Millsaps outscored the Ladies 11-3 to claim the 12-point win. With Centenary trailing 49-44, Klunk made a layup and Kala-Jewel Freeman made a jumper. After a foul and technical, Millsaps made 5-of-6 from the line to go up 58-44. Gomez Gil added a jumper for the final 12-point margin.

Klunk led the Majors with 18 points, 15 rebounds, and six blocks. Kala-Jewel Freeman added 14 points, 13 rebounds, and four blocks.

Despite only a small 55-47 rebounding edge for the visitors, Millsaps took advantage of a 14-0 lead in second-chance points.

Centenary returns to action Saturday night, December 10, when Belhaven visits the Gold Dome. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
