SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies cut a 19-point, second half deficit to seven in the fourth quarter, but the YellowJackets held on as Centenary (1-6) fell to LeTourneau (2-5) 64-54 Thursday night, December 7.

The Ladies trailed 51-32 with 28 seconds left in the third, but 12 unanswered that bridged the third and fourth quarters cut the deficit to seven. Jasmine Morris made a layup before junior Savanah Doty picked off a pass and made the hoop to end the third quarter.

Morris led the Ladies with 14 points, six rebounds and four steals.

To begin the fourth, the Ladies picked up a steal and freshman Kayla King made the jumper on a dime from sophomore Deunya Small. Following a turnover, Small made a jumper on the offensive end and picked up a block and a rebound on the defensive side. Morris made a layup and King added a layup after a Doty steal to pull Centenary within 51-44 with 6:21 left in the game.

King reached double-digits for the second-straight contest with 10 points and grabbed a career best nine boards.

In the first quarter, Centenary trailed by as much as six and was down 12-7 before an 8-2 run. Freshman Darelzray Bellard made a three and Morris picked up a steal and the fastbreak hoop to tie the game. LeTourneau’s Keunya Whitfield made a pair of free throws at the other end, but another Bellard three put the Maroon and White up one. Both teams scored a basket in the final minute of the first as Centenary led 17-16 after one quarter.

A Doty jumper cut the deficit to 35-30 with 7:47 left in the third, but 13 unanswered by LeTourneau pushed the visitor’s lead to double digits. Whitfield hit two buckets around an Ashley Reed free throw to give the YellowJackets and 10-point lead. A Reed three, a jumper by Savanah Cummings, and another triple by Reed pushed the LeTourneau advantage to 18 with 3:01 left in the third.
