Full Court Press with Coach K

Hi all. We’ve had another exciting week in women’s basketball.  We played two games this past week and we had a great Athletic Day event put on by our office of admission.

Thursday we had a really big game against UT-Dallas.  UT-D has already beaten us earlier in the year by a pretty significant margin.  The second time around, we wanted to show our growth since the beginning of season and especially protect our home court.

We started off the game great both on offense and defense.  We were moving well and rotating and communicating the best I’ve seen this year.  At one point in the first half we were up by 15 points.  But UT-Dallas wasn’t simply going to quit and give up.  UT-D went on a run to tie up the game.  We found ourselves down by three at the half.  At halftime, we expressed that no team in this conference can we simply coast through a game.  We have to play hard and aggressive every single possession.  And we did just that in the second half.  It was a back and forth battle the entire half.  Neither team was willing to give in to the other.  Rebounding was a huge key for us.  We out rebounded UT-D 44 – 35.  And we knocked down 17 of 20 from the free throw line.  We ended up winning the game 61 – 58.  Coach Huckabay and I were so proud of the fight and effort our players showed to get a tough win against a great team.

Saturday we faced off against the University of Ozarks.  This was another great opportunity for us to play at home in front of a great home Centenary crowd.  Unfortunately we played flat and out of sync. Our rotations on defense really hurt us and we allowed too many easy buckets under the basket.  We lost the game 58 – 69 and were not at all happy with our performance.

We do not have a game this Thursday so we’ll have Monday off and Tuesday will be a shooting day for us.  Saturday we’ll get another opportunity to compete against the Ozarks as we travel to them for a 1pm tip off on February 4th.

Hope you enjoy the quote for the week.
