Ladies not enough for Trinity

Shreveport, La. – The Centenary women’s basketball team dropped a 91-55 decision on Friday evening to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference’s top-ranked Trinity University. The Ladies fall to 0-19 and 0-10 in SCAC play, while the Tigers advance to 17-4 overall and 9-1 in the conference.

Rhonda Martin paced the Maroon and White with 19 points while Rebecca Thompson grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds. Thompson also chimed in nine points falling just short of her second double-double of the season. DeiAnna Hall also added nine points to the scoring total.

Trinity marched out to a 17-point lead in the opening half and totaled 20 points early in the second stanza.

Centenary mounted a 13-2 run to cut the lead to single digits with 14:18 left to play. The Ladies kept the contest within striking distance over the next four minutes, but with 10:50 to play Hannah Coley put the Tigers back in front by double figures, 53-42.

TU managed to extend its lead and grabbed its largest lead of the contest at 81-53 with 16 ticks left.

Coley provided a double-double to pace the Tigers with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The rebounding mark tied Bryony Harris for tops on the team as the point total was third on the squad. Murphy Burns led the effort with 19 points while Taylor Hollins added 13 points.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday as the Ladies host Southwestern at 6 p.m.
