SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary women’s basketball team dropped a 79-48 decision to intra-city rival Louisiana State University-Shreveport in the Red River Clash. The setback moves the Ladies to 0-6 on the season while LSUS improved to 2-2.

Rebecca Thompson led the Maroon and White with a career-high 19 points and a season-high 14 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. The point is her third double-digit scoring effort of the season and her second straight. The 14 boards marks the first time this season in double figures for the Benton, La., native.

Briana Edwards tallied four blocks in the outing to finish just outside the most blocks in a single-game ranking in school history. The Shreveport, La., product scored six points and grabbed six rebounds in the effort.

LSUS held a 35-15 advantage at the break and added on to their deficit in the second stanza to log the 31-point victory. The Lady Pilots grabbed their largest lead, 44 points, at the 2:28 mark of the second half.

Centenary hit just 28.8 percent the floor while LSUS connected on 40 percent of its shot from the field.

Samantha Lyons led LSUS with 12 points while Kourtney Pennywell added 11 points. Ariel Harrell missed a double-double by a point after grabbing a team-best 10 rebounds in the effort.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 6 as they travel to Rhodes College. Tip is slated for 1 p.m.
