SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies fought the Mountaineers until the end, but the Maroon and White could not rally from a 22-point deficit.

The Ladies cut a 22-point, fourth-quarter deficit to 13, but they could not climb any closer as #6 Centenary (9-17) fell to #3 Schreiner (13-12) 78-65 in the final quarterfinal game of day one of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship.

Centenary jumped out to an early 8-2 lead. Freshman Jasmine Morris split from the line before a Schreiner layup. However, the Maroon and White scored seven-straight to take a six-point lead. Morris and senior Briana Edwards made layups. Freshman Savanah Doty hit a fastbreak triple as the Ladies led 8-2 less than four minutes into the contest.

Centenary led Schreiner 13-4 in fastbreak points, but the Mountaineers countered with a 27-3 edge in bench points.

Down 22 in the fourth, the Ladies put pressure on Schreiner. Edwards made a layup while Morris picked up a steal and went to the hoop. Schreiner built the lead back to 20, but sophomore Samantha Lyons hit a pair of free throws and Doty hit another fastbreak three. Schreiner led by 17 later in the quarter, but two free throws by Doty and a layup by Morris cut the deficit to 73-60.

However, Centenary climbed no closer in the 78-65 loss.

Brianna Edwards finished her Ladies career with 10 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks for her 12th double-double of the season. The Centenary career leader in blocks and rebounds, Edwards finished the season with 82 blocks. It was the fourth-most blocks in a single-season in SCAC history.

Doty and Morris added 16 and junior DeiAnna Hall added 11. Morris finished the season second in the SCAC with 14.8 points per game. Her 385 points this season is the second-most for a freshman in Ladies basketball history, and the most in 32 seasons.

The Mountaineers trailed by six early, but a 13-2 run put them in the lead for good. Dyamond Puebla made a layup and Jordyn Villa hit a triple. Morris countered with a layup, but Cassandra Aleman hit a three for Schreiner to tie the game. Kelsie Jackson got into the act with a three and Chris Jones finished the spurt with a layup.

Schreiner led 20-14 after one quarter and 39-34 at half.

Schreiner pushed the lead to double-digits for good with the first nine points of the second half. Aleman made a layup and Sabriyyah Fennell made a pair from the line. Jackson hit a three and Puebla capped the run with a layup.

Jackson led Schreiner with 20 points, including a 3-for-5 mark from long range.

The nine wins for the Ladies in 2015-16 ties the 2001-02 squad for the most wins since they had 10 in 1982-83.
