SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies could not come back giving up a season-high 29 points in the first quarter to the War Hawks as Centenary (2-3) fell to McMurry (1-2) 67-57 in the home opener on Sunday afternoon, November 27.

Centenary trailed by as much as 17 in the first quarter, but a 12-3 run in the second quarter brought the deficit back down to single digits. Junior Peyton Hurst hit a fastbreak jumper and a pair from the line. After McMurry split from the line, sophomore Jasmine Morris completed the a three the hard way. Morris then split from the line to cut the deficit to single digits, but Mackenzie Kimball hit a layup after three McMurry offensive boards. Sophomore Savanah Doty answered with a layup for her first points of the season, and freshman Deunya Small made a layup.

However, Centenary climbed no closer as McMurry’s Kaymee Howell hit a pair of threes around a Small layup to put the visitors up 40-29 at break.

Morris led Centenary with 16 points, while sophomore Erin Temple chipped in a season best 13 on 5-for-7 shooting. Small grabbed 13 boards.

McMurry held an 8-5 advantage early before a 17-3 run opened up a 17-point lead. Isabel Carrion made a layup before back-to-back hoops by Kimball. Senior Linda Gomez Gil made a pair from the line for the Ladies, but Skyler Reyna hit a pair of shots for McMurry, followed by a Howell three. Morris split from the line, but Howell answered with a layup. McMurry then split from the line in consecutive possessions to open up a 25-8 lead with 2:01 left in the first.

Howell came off the bench for a game best 18 points on 4-for-5 shooting from behind the arc for the War Hawks. Kimball and Haley Welch added 12 each. The visitors took advantage of a 46-35 edge on the boards and a 12-2 edge in second chance points.

The Ladies return to action Thursday, December 1, when it travels to the University of Ozarks. Tip in Clarksville, Arkansas, is set for 5:30 p.m.
