SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies fought back from an early nine-point deficit, but the Crusaders Michelle DeCoud’s 34 points and 15 rebounds proved tough to overcome as Centenary (4-11, 1-4 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Dallas (8-7, 1-4 SCAC) 72-64 Saturday night, January 14.

Centenary trailed 15-6 early, but finished the first quarter on a 12-3 run to pull within one. Freshman Essa Badon hit a triple. After Dallas split from the line, sophomore Jasmine Morris hit a jumper and a three. Holly Tonry pushed the Crusaders lead to four with a layup, but junior Peyton Hurst answered with a fastbreak three.

Dallas led 25-24 with 3:45 left in the second quarter, but sophomore Jasmine Morris hit a pair from the line to give Centenary its first lead since the opening minute. Sophomore Erin Temple pushed the Ladies lead to four on a triple.

Centenary clung to a 33-31 halftime lead despite only shooting 25 percent (10-for-40) in the first two quarters.

Dallas fought to a 44-39 lead midway through the third quarter, but Morris added three-straight layups to put Centenary back ahead. However, tied at 48, DeCoud hit a pair from the line and Caitlyn Worry hit a jumper to give the visitors a four-point lead heading into the final quarter.

Down eight in the fourth, the Ladies scored seven unanswered to pull within one with three minutes left. Hurst – who scored 11 points and hit all six free throws in the game – made four from the charity stripe. Sophomore Savanah Doty followed with a triple.

However, DeCoud hit a pair of layups and a jumper for Dallas as the Crusaders built the lead to seven with a minute left. Seana Stoia added the layup as Dallas matched its largest lead of the game.

Dallas salted the game away with a 4-for-6 mark from the line in the final minute.

Besides DeCoud’s double-double for the Crusaders, Worry added 14 points while Tonry contributed seven points and seven assists. Dallas outshot Centenary 46.4 to 28.8 percent in the win, as the Crusaders shot 53.8 percent in the second half alone.

Centenary recorded the first bucket of the game, but Dallas answered with 10 unanswered. Worry bookended the spurt with threes. Tonry and DeCoud added layup as Dallas led 10-2 3:35 in to the game. Worry pushed the Crusaders lead to 15-6 with her third three of the quarter. She finished the game with four treys.
