Olson, Hughes turn in top-10 times; McDonald finishes 13th

NATCHITOCHES, La. – Rachel Olson and Julie Hughes turned in top-10 finishes and Miles McDonald grabbed 13th at the NSU Invitational Monday to lead Centenary to third and fifth-place finishes, respectively.

Olson was just under three minutes behind Northwestern State’s Sarah Emory, who won the 6k race in 23:55.5, just 2.2 seconds ahead of ULM’s Sharon Sason. Sason was three seconds ahead of teammate Anakaren Lopez, followed by Grambling’s Tieshia Alexander and NSU’s Ali Fontenot to round out the top five for the women.

Olson bettered Hughes’ 26:45.5 mark by 22 seconds, tying ULM for third. NSU won the women’s race with 43 points, accounting for three of the top six finishers and five in the top 15. Grambling State racked up 46 points, followed by Centenary and ULM, each with 90. Louisiana Tech and Louisiana College rounded out the field with 125 and 131, respectively.

McDonald finished first for the Gents in 28:47.49, 3:12 behind Mutai Daniel of ULM, which grabbed the top three individual finishes and the team title.

ULM tallied 43 points, 10 ahead of second-place NSU and 19 ahead of Grambling. Centenary senior Chad Nelson was the only other Gents inside the top-20 finish in the 42-man field at 30:27.8.
