Hughes, McDonald pace Centenary at Demon Invitational

NATCHITOCHES, La. – Julie Hughes and Miles McDonald paved the way for Centenary at the Demon Invitational Friday afternoon, the Ladies and Gents last meet before the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference cross country meet Oct. 27.

Host Northwestern State took both team titles Friday as the Ladies wrapped up a sixth-place finish in the nine-team women’s field and the Gents finished ninth in the 11-team field.

Hughes wrapped up a 14-place finish in 20:25.4, 2:12 behind Sarah Emory from Northwestern State. NSU accounted for three of the top-seven finishes, beating second-place Grambling’s second-place 67 by 16 points.

McDonald paced the Gents again in 22nd (16:25.8) while Northwood’s Kip Kosgei won the individual title by five seconds over NSU’s Mitch Landry. Chad Nelson followed McDonald, who ranks fourth in the SCAC in the men’s 5,000-meter run, with a 36th-place finish in 17:06.7. Nelson ranks third in the conference in the 5,000-meter, eight seconds ahead of McDonald.

Rachel Olson (21:03.2) followed Hughes with a 21st-place finish in the 61-runner field. Delilah Montero, 42nd, Christy Wolterman (47th) and Hayley Schneider (50th) rounded out the scoring for the Ladies.

Andrew Borel (18:37.8) finished 59th in the 83-man field, ahead of teammate Horacio D’Agnostino (19:11.6) and Kellen Bullock (19:49.1). Cavett Feazel recorded a 20:55.3 mark while Chris Klambach wrapped up a 21:36.7 performance.
