SHREVEPORT, La. – Not only did the Ladies wrap up its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference berth in three years, they also clinched the fifth seed.

Senior Marissa Hughes had a hand in all three goals scored by the Maroon and White as Centenary (6-9, 3-8 SCAC) blew past Dallas (4-11-2, 1-8-2) 3-0 Sunday afternoon, Oct. 23.

Despite being outshot 7-1 in shots on goal in the first half, Centenary made sure its only attempt on target was a successful one. Hughes found senior Hannah Jo Wright just past midfield, who ripped an attempt into the upper-right corner of the net for her second goal of the season in the 15th minute.

Despite the big disadvantage in shots on goal in the first half, the Ladies wasted no time in turning that statistic around after halftime. Centenary put seven shots on goal in the second half, starting with Hughes in the 48th minute. Freshman Serena Gallegos served a ball into the front of the goal in the 48th minute. Hughes’ first attempt was saved by Dallas goalie Elena Neccari. However, she could not corral the ball and Hughes scored off the rebound for her fourth goal of the season.

Sophomore Kati-Jayde Cunningham scored the capper in the 84th minute. Hughes passed across the box to Cunningham, who found the back of the net for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.

Senior goalie Erica Coker (5-7) grabbed 10 saves for her fourth shutout of the season and her eighth of her career. Naccari (3-9) grabbed five saves in the second half for Dallas.

Hughes led Centenary with nine shots in the game, four of which were on target. Cunningham added five shots and two on goal. Elisa Duran led Dallas with five shots, all but one of which was on goal.

Centenary takes quick breather from conference play when it travels to Hendrix for a 4 p.m. kickoff on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
