SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies controlled the tempo for most of the game and held on despite a late goal by the YellowJackets as Centenary (3-5-1) beat LeTourneau (6-3-2) 2-1 Tuesday night, October 3, in a non-conference regional-rivalry game at Mayo Field.

In the games 20th minute, sophomore Kyra Montes crossed a ball to recent sub, classmate Gabby Lovemore. Lovemore finished near post to put the Ladies up 1-0 for her first collegiate goal of her career. Centenary went up 2-0 when in the 70th minute, sophomore Olivia Jackson crossed a ball in front of the goal. However, LeTourneau’s Brittany Boyd deflected the ball into the net to put Centenary up 2-0.

While the YellowJackets outshot the Ladies 13-10, the home team used a 6-5 advantage in shots on target.

LeTourneau’s Kennedy Keer tried to put a ball in the upper 90 in the 74th minute, but Centenary freshman Maggie Pitcher pushed the ball above the crossbar. Seven minutes later, Tamara Martin put a through-ball into Keer when Pitcher came out, but Keer beat the defense for her third goal of the season.

Despite the late goal, LeTourneau was held without a shot in the final nine minutes as Centenary held on for the win.

Centenary returns to action Friday night when it begins the second half of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference at Texas Lutheran. Game time in Seguin, Texas, is set for 5 p.m.
