SEGUIN, Texas – Amanda Atwell netted a late first-half goal and Madison Alexander added another midway through the second half as Centenary College posted its first shutout of the year with a 2-0 women’s soccer win over Texas Lutheran Monday. The Ladies remain unbeaten at 1-0-1, dropping Texas Lutheran to 0-1. Centenary will have nearly a week off, hosting Millsaps College Sept. 9 to make its home debut at Mayo Field. Atwell scored for the first time this year, assisted by Alex Denkowski (1). She knocked in a 20-yard shot with her left foot into the upper right corner for the game-winner. Alexander’s first goal finished the scoring after Traci Lee set up the freshman forward. Alexander dribbled past TLU’s goalie, finding an open net for the score. Centenary dominated offensively, outshooting the host Bulldogs 25-11. Centenary had nearly as many shots on goal (10) as TLU’s total shot count. Carly Slovensky led all players with five shots, two on goal, while Traci Lee posted three shots on goal in five attempts. Hannah Pfannenstiel and Atwell also had two shots on goal. Veronic Zapata led TLU with four shots and three on goal while teammate Sioned Kirkpatrick accounted for three shots and one on goal. |
