SHERMAN, Texas – Madison Alexander and Spencer Nickerson each found the back of the net for the Ladies and Gents Friday night in Centenary’s Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference debuts, but Austin College escaped with a couple of 3-1 wins in soccer action. The Ladies fall to 2-2-1 (0-1 SCAC) and the Gents drop to 2-4 (0-1) after snapping its three-match losing streak against with a double-overtime win against Millsaps College Sept. 16. The Lady Kangaroos improve 3-4 (1-0) while Austin College’s men jump to 4-1-2 (1-0). Centenary returns to Mayo Field Sunday with a doubleheader against Hendrix College. The Ladies kick off at 1 p.m., followed by the Gents at 3. Alexander scored second goal of the year in the 67th minute, assisted by Traci Lee, to knot the game at one after Abby Saizow gave the Lady Roos a 1-0 advantage three minutes before halftime. Natalie Helms and Hannah Poenisch scored a pair of goals only 11 minutes apart, both assisted by Ariel Marder. Ladies goalie Brittaney Dunn gathered 10 saves as the Lady Roos offense piled on 23 shots, compared to Centenary’s eight. The Ladies mustered singled shot in the first half, but fired seven in the final 45 minutes. |
