GEORGETOWN, Texas – Centenary’s bid to snap its three-match losing streak failed to come to fruition as Southwestern University downed the Ladies for the second time in as many tries, 2-0, in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer play. The Ladies fall to 3-6-1 and 0-5 in SCAC play while Southwestern improves to 6-8 and 4-2 in league action, good enough for second place behind Trinity University (8-1-2, 4-0). Centenary takes on No. 9 Trinity, which lost 3-2 to Loras, the first regular-season loss since early in 2010. The Ladies and Tigers kick off at 2 p.m. Sunday. Hannah Neil and Paige Duggins scored the Pirates two goals just 30 seconds apart Friday night, only five minutes before the half. The Ladies defense pitched a shutout in the final 45 minutes, but never found an offensive rhythm, taking only two total shots, both in the first half. Southwestern attempted five first-half shots and nine in the second frame, tallying 10 on goal. Brittaney Dunn grabbed eight saves in the net for Centenary while Sarah Nonaka had two for Southwestern. Carly Slovensky and Traci Lee had the only two shots for Centenary. |
