Swimming Takes Second at Austin College Invitational
The Ladies placed second out of seven squads with a score of 515. They finished behind Henderson State's 616.5 and just ahead of third-place UT-Permian Basin's 510 points. On the women's side, nine individuals grabbed Top 3 honors, along with three relay teams. Earning first place in their respective events was Brittany Wilkens (2:33.56) in the 200 yard Breast and Chelsea Russell (2:10.56) in the 200 yard Back. Placing second was Laura Huning (1:00.13) in the 100 yard Fly, Wilkens (1:12.35) in the 100 yard Breast, and Russell (2:01.50) in the 200 yard Free. Russell was followed by teammate Kayla Thornhill (2:03.47) in third, while Allison Jones (25.43) took third in the 50 yard Free. Also rounding out the Top 3 was Hayley Schneider (2:17.21) in the 200 yard IM and Huning (55.11) in the 100 yard Free. In relay action, the 200 yard Medley Relay team of Lauren Lassiter, Wilkens, Huning and Jones (1:54.00) took second, followed by teammates Russell, Thornhill, Schneider, and Cassie Cloutet in third (1:56.31). Rounding out the competition in second was the 200 yard Free Relay team of Cloutet, Huning, Schneider and Jones (1:41.58). The Gents took second behind Henderson State's 659.5 points, receiving 637. Behind Centenary and rounding out the Top 3 was UT-Permian Basin with 578.5 points. On the men's side, 11 individuals placed amongst the Top 3 in their events, led by two first-place finished by Devin Ross in the 50 yard Free (20.57) and in the 100 yard Fly (50.80). Behind Ross in the 100 yard Fly was Peter Henry in second (51.99), while Matthew Pittman grabbed two second-place nods in the 1000 yard Free (10:14.17) and in the 500 yard Free (4:54.74). Coming up big in his debut season was Andrew Borel with a first place finish in the 100 yard Back (54.78) and two third-place efforts in the 200 yard IM (2:03.47) and in the 200 yard Back (2:02.47). Behind Borel in the 100 yard Back was teammate Michael Schwandt (55.02) in second. Austin Butler took second in the 200 yard Free (1:47.56) and Anthony LeBlanc placed third in the 100 yard Free (48.70). The Gents earned two first-place relay finishes as the 200 yard Medley Relay team of Henry, Butler, Ross and Caleb McSorley finished in 1:35.85, followed by a final event finish by the 200 yard Free Relay team of Butler, LeBlanc, McSorley, and Ross in 1:24.32.
