Centenary Swimming Announces Part of Incoming Class

SHREVEPORT, La. – Head Centenary coach Butch Jordan is pleased to announce the first part of the swimming recruiting class on Tuesday, July 19.

“We have a great mix of incoming student-athletes for this season,” explained  Jordan. “Some do not have as much experience, but have a great deal of potential. We also have a group of athletes who have already proven themselves in the pool. I am very excited about the incoming class.”

Here is a closer look two of the Gents and two of the Ladies who are joining the Centenary swim teams for the 2016-2017 season:


Ellen Atkinson

Backstroke-Freestyle / 5-6

Katy, Texas / Katy HS

Atkinson was a member of the Katy High School swim team. While with the Tigers, she captured the University Interscholastic League Scholar Award, Citizenship Award, World History Award, and Academic and Varsity Letters. Atkinson also graduated with High Honors.

Atkinson is the daughter of Stephen Atkinson and Joan Benoit. At Centenary, she intends to major in both biology and math.  


Tori Boyle

Freestyle-Breaststroke / 5-4

Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch HS

Boyle swam for Christie Patterson at Cinco Ranch HS. With the Cougars, she won All-District and All-Region honors. She also helped Cinco Ranch win Regional Championships in both 2015 and 2016. Academically, Boyle garnered Academic All-State honors from the Texas High School Coaches Association.

Boyle is the daughter of Jodi and Doug Boyle and has three siblings; sisters Kristen and Danielle and brother Tyler. At Centenary, she intends to major in neuroscience.



Shane Pendarvis

Backstroke-Freestyle / 6-1

Walker, La. / Walker HS

Pendarvis swam for head coach Kevin Fambrough at Walker High School. He scored the most points in Wildcats swimming history. He also holds school records in 50, 100 and 500 freestyles, 100 IM, 100 back, and as a member of the 200 medley and 200 and 400 free relays. He was the highest scorer for Walker High School his sophomore, junior and senior seasons, finishing in the top-10 in multiple events at the District level. His senior year, he served as team captain and received the Coaches Award.

With Crawfish Aquatics, Pendarvis swam on state championship teams his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons in both short and long course. In his senior year, Crawfish Aquatics finished runner-up his senior year in short course.

Son of Shane and Penny Pendarvis, he has three siblings; sister Jessica Guzzardo and brothers Quinton Fitzhugh and Jeremy Pendarvis. At Centenary, he intends to major in English and political science.



Michael Smith

Breaststroke-Freestyle / 5-8

Austin, Texas / Lake Travis HS

Smith swam for head coach K.B. DeBord at Lake Travis High School. While at Lake Travis, the Cavaliers won a District Championship all four years and captured Regional Championships his sophomore through senior seasons. Individually, he was named to the All-District and All-Region Teams his sophomore-senior seasons. He also finished All-Region as a member of the 200 medley relay team, swimming the breaststroke leg. Academically, Smith received the Daniel Hoffman Memorial Scholarship.

The son of Cindy and Kelly Smith, he has three siblings; sister Abigail and brothers Stephen and Samuel. At Centenary, he intends to major in business administration.
