Gents Fourth, Ladies Fifth at Hendrix Classic

HENDRIX, Ark. – The Centenary swimming teams wrapped up the month of October Saturday at the 49th annual Hendrix Classic relays in Hendrix, Arkansas.

The Gents scored 128 points to finish fourth of eight teams, besting host Hendrix, St. Gregorys, McMurry, and the University of the Ozarks. The Ladies tallied 159 points to finish fifth of eight teams, beating St. Gregory’s, McMurry, and the University of the Ozarks.

Oklahoma Baptist University won both the men’s and women’s titles.

Freshman Liz Ryan knocked more than a quarter second off her best collegiate time in the 50 free, finishing sixth in a time of 25.98. In the 200 IM, an unusual situation occurred. Not only was there a tie for sixth, the two who tied were teammates in sophomore Elena Ring and freshman Jessi Jordan of Centenary. Both touched the wall in 2:24.06.

The men’s 400 medley relay team of senior Juan Tapia, junior Anthony McDonald, sophomore Paul Ahluwalia, and junior Zachary Harrison finished seventh with a time of 3:47.07.

The 400 medley relay quartet on the Ladies side of Ring, Jordan, senior Jane Barney, and Ryan took fifth with a time of 4:22.64.

Centenary returns to action with a tri-meet against both Southwestern and the University of the Ozarks on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Centenary Fitness Center.
