Ladies open 2014 with victory over LSUS
SHREVEPORT, La. – The Centenary women’s tennis team opened the 2014 season with a 7-2 victory over intra-city rival Louisiana State University-Shreveport. The win marks a successful beginning to the Greg Owens Era at Centenary.
The Ladies claimed two wins in doubles action and secured the match with five of the six victories in singles play.
The pairings of Katelyn Alexander and Katie Cornwell and Lauren Beurlot and Holly Clark picked up the decisions in doubles at 8-3 and 8-2 respectively.
All four players also tallied wins in the singles along with Celia Sobelman claiming a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the No. 6 spot. Beurlot won 6-2, 6-2 in the top singles slot with Alexander adding a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 singles position. Cornwell won in straight sets at the No. 3 spot with Clark rounding out the wins with a 6-3, 6-3 outcome at the No. 4 spot.
Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 15 against Schreiner University. Action is slated for 11 a.m.
