Six Centenary Athletes Named to Spring 2016 All-Conference Sportsmanship Team
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Six Centenary student-athletes, one representing each of the six spring sports, was named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Sportsmanship Team for spring 2016.
Freshman Kylie Bradley represents the Ladies on the Softball All-Sportsmanship team. Bradley appeared in 43-of-45 games with 36 starts for the season, finishing 2016 with 23 hits in 89 at-bats. She tallied a pinch-hit double with an RBI in her first collegiate at-bat in the first game of a doubleheader at LeTourneau February 8. In the second game against the YellowJackets, Bradley scored what proved to be the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the first victory of the season. She added a home run in the second game of a doubleheader at Southwestern March 13.
The Ladies softball team finished the season 23-22, the first winning season in seven years. The 16-win improvement from 2015 is the fourth-best mark in NCAA Division III.
Seniors Chris Cates and Jamie Wright represent the Gents and Ladies golf teams, respectively. Cates led the Gents with a 156 (+12) and a 16th-place finish at the 2016 SCAC Golf Championships. Wright, a 2016 SCAC Character and Community award recipient, just missed All-Conference honors when she finished 12th (164, +20) at the SCAC Championships.
As a team, the Gents finished fifth while the Ladies took fourth in the Conference Championships.
Sophomore Clemence DeKermabon and senior Stafford Lyons were named to the All-Conference Sportsmanship Team, representing Gents and Ladies tennis. Lyons finished the season 2-7 in singles action and 2-11 in doubles play, concluding his Centenary career with a 3-12 singles record and a 3-15 doubles mark.
DeKermabon, playing mostly second singles and first doubles on the year, completed her first season with the Maroon and White 1-15 in singles action and 1-17 in doubles play.
Rounding out the Centenary honorees is sophomore Cole Lavergne of the Gents baseball team. Lavergne started all 39 games for the season for Centenary, finishing with a .247 average and 37 hits. He finished second on the team in both RBI’s (35) and doubles (10). He also led the team among starters with a .984 fielding percentage. In the first game of a doubleheader against Southwestern April 9, Lavergne tallied a career high three hits and added two RBI’s and a run.
The Diamond Gents finished the season 26-13 and was ranked as high as 12th by both D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
