Triathlon Qualifies for NCAA Championships, Finishes Second at Central Region Qualifier

NAPERVILLE, Ill. –Nothing like qualifying for the national championships in your first meet in the history of the program.

By virtue of a second-place finish at the Central Region Qualifier on Monday, Sept. 5, Centenary triathlon qualified for the second NCAA Championship in triathlon. The Championship will be contested in  New Orleans Saturday, Nov. 5.

“This a great start for the Centenary triathlon team!" said head coach Kyle Joplin. "We came in with a race plan that we felt would set us up for success, and our Ladies did an amazing job of executing that plan. This is a big moment for Centenary College, and I am very proud of our Ladies."

Freshman Tori Boyle paced the Ladies, finishing the swim-bike-run competition with a combined time of 1:11.47 to finish 12th individually. Junior Caitlyn Faulhaber clocked in at 1:17.12. Senior Cameron Barney took 15th with a time of 1:18.40.

Barney started out of the gate fastest for the Ladies in the 550-meter swim, ranking sixth after the first leg with a time of 9:34.00. Boyle finished close behind her teammate with a swim of 9:50.37 to rank seventh. Faulhaber took 14th with a time of 10:11.84.

Boyle placed 10th in the bike portion, finishing the 20 kilometers in a time of 36:45.14. Faulhaber and Barney finished 14th while her teammate finished next with times of 38:21.43 and 40:38.16, respectively.

Boyle finished with a time of 24:12.49, Barney with a time of 26:58.78 and Faulhaber clocked in at 27:22.63 in the five kilometer run to close out the day.

Centenary is back in action Saturday, Sept. 24 in a dual with West Alabama in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
