Senior Hailey Lawson broke the Ladies Volleyball career record for digs this past weekend and was named the Centenary Athlete of the Week October 29, 2018.
On the seventh point of the first set in the match against #10 Trinity Saturday, Lawson broke the 13-year old school record with her 1,216th dig of her career. Later that day, she tallied a season best 19 digs as Centenary picked up its first sweep of Austin College in school history. Lawson recorded double-digit digs in all four matches this past weekend, matching the longest such streak in her career. Lawson currently has 1,270 career digs.
This is the second career record Lawson holds as last season she broke the record for aces. This season, Lawson became the first Ladies Volleyball player to amass more than 200 career aces. In her sophomore season, she broke the record for aces in a match with 10 in a sweep of Texas College October 19, 2016.
Lawson and the Centenary Volleyball team (16-17, 7-9 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) split its four conference matches this weekend to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place - the highest finish for the Ladies in conference play in program history. Centenary claimed the fifth seed and will play host and fourth-seeded Dallas in the first SCAC Tournament Quarterfinal game Friday, November 2, at 3:30 p.m.
Centenary returns to action for its final regular season volleyball match at Jarvis Christian Tuesday. First serve is at 6 p.m.
