ABILENE, Texas - The Ladies turned in a couple of career bests as the Centenary women's golf team sits fifth (343, +59) after day one of the Abilene Intercollegiate at the par-71 Diamondbacks Golf Club in Abilene, Texas.
"Hard work is paying off," said head coach Emlyn Aubrey. "Taylor, Haley, and Toni all shot career bests today."
Texas-Tyler leads the way at 311 (+27), followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor at 314 (+30). However, fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-foe Schreiner is third at 329 (+45), just 14 strokes ahead of the Ladies. The Maroon and White are 14 strokes clear fellow SCAC-member Texas Lutheran (357, +73).
Freshman Jessica Varner is in the running for her second top-5 collegiate finish in three events played, sitting tied for fifth as she fired a 78 (+7). Senior Jamie Wright is tied for 20th after a first round 84 (+13). Freshman Taylor Adair sits tied for 23rd, just one stroke behind Wright (+14).
Sophomore Haley Nidey is tied for 40th, carding a 96 (+25) while classmate Toni Collaro is tied for 43rd with a +28 (99).
