THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Centenary women's golf have three players in the top-24 and are sixth of nine teams after the first round of the Cal Lutheran Invite at the par-72 Sunset Hills Golf Club in Thousand Oaks, California.
"Not bad today other than being a little rusty from the layoff last week with the rains," said head coach Emlyn Aubrey. "Our short games cost us too many wasted shots around the greens, and that's just a product of not getting to practice like we needed to before we left town."
The Maroon and White shot 368 (+80) as a team and leads seventh-place Augsburg by nine strokes. Claremont Mudd Scripps leads the tournament with a first round 323 (+35).
Freshman Jessica Varner leads the way, shooting an 81 (+9) to sit fourth after day one, just three strokes behind the leader. Freshman Taylor Adair fired an 88 (+16) to sit 20th, while senior Jamie Wright is close behind with a 90 (+18).
Sophomore Toni Collaro and classmate Haley Nidey sit 45th and 46th, respectively, shooting +37 (109) and +38 (110).
Centenary wraps up play in the Cal Lutheran Invite tomorrow with the final round beginning at 10:30 a.m.
