Malik Preston enters his third year with the Centenary Football Program as the Linebackers Coach. The Shreveport native is a Southwood High School alum and a graduate of Southern Arkansas University. He played linebacker for the Muleriders and was an All-Conference selection three of his years and earned D-2 National player recognition. He is also third all-time for forced fumbles in Mulerider history.

Preston’s journey began as a student-intern under mentor Byron Dawson at Evangel Christian Academy which led to him receiving his first coaching experience. He coached at Plain Dealing High School, followed by two years at Green Oaks High School. In 2023 he returned under the leadership of his mentor as the Linebackers Coach and Assistant to the Defensive Coordinator for the Gents.

Preston was a part of the Gents historic return to the gridiron for the first time since the 1940’s in which the Gents had a 9-1 record in 2023 and he helped the Centenary football program complete its historic 2024 season 4-6 overall and 4-4 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. 

He coached a pair of linebackers - Vance Feuerbacher (First Team) and Devon Strickland (Honorable Mention) to All-SCAC Honors last season. The Gents' defense finished first in the conference in defensive touchdowns (sixth in D-III) and interceptions (36^th in D-III), while finishing second in Sacks (22) & turnovers gained (25th in D-III).
