Bio

2009: Saw action in all 11 meets and competed in the all-around against Southeast Missouri (March 6) and Pennsylvania (March 8) ... Had a season-high score on 9.825 against the Air Force Academy (Feb. 6) ... Against SEMO had a 37.800 in the all-around, while scoring a 38.350 against Penn.    

 

2008: Alyssa posted solid routines as a regular in the Ladies vault and beam line-up as a freshman. She also stepped in to perform on the bars three times and the floor exercise twice. Against Kentucky, she competed in the all-around and posted a score of 37.575. Her high scores for the season were: 9.650 on the vault, 9.750 on the bars and beam, and a 9.650 on the floor.

 

High School: Alyssa graduated from Bryan High School in 2007. She earned four letters as a band member under Robert Towell and earned two letters in gymnastics under Coach Callie Currie. She also earned a letter in diving for the Vikings. She was an All-American gymnast and MVP. She was state champ in the all-around, third in bars, seventh in beam, and second on the floor. She was also a member of Mu Alpha Theta, the Spanish Honor Society, the Ultimate Frisbee Club, FCA, Junior Board member for 1st National Bank, and Classroom Champion.

 

Club: Alyssa was a member of Brazos Valley Gymnastics under Jim and Julie Foght from 2001-2003. She was the National Vault Champion.

All-Around: 38.9, Vault: 9.925, Bars: 9.9, Beam: 9.8, Floor: 10.0

 

Personal: Born April 9, 1989 in Bryan, Texas, Alyssa is the daughter of David and Cindy Zaweija. She has two brothers and one sister. She is a communication-professional writing major and a gender studies minor.
