2017-18 Junior Season: Played in all 26 games with 17 starts… Finished fourth on the team with 9.1 points per game… Reached double-digit scoring in 11 games, including seven straight from the middle of November to the middle of December… Scored a season high 26 points in the regular season finale, an 83-78 win at Austin College February 17, 2018.

2016-17 Sophomore Season: Named Honorable Mention All-Conference in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference... Finished third on the team with 10.5 points per game and fourth with 4.5 rebounds per game... Finished second on the team and seventh in the conference with 3.2 assists per game... Played in all 26 games with 19 starts... Reached double-digit scoring in 15 games... Recorded his only double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 boards in an 89-80 loss at Southwestern January 27, 2017... Was two rebounds and two points short of a triple double, recording a season-high 10 assists in a 92-88 overtime win against Austin College February 18, 2017.

2015-16 Freshman Season: Led the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference freshman with 10.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game... Received SCAC Honorable Mention accolades... Received three votes for conference Newcomer of the Year and a vote for Louisiana Sports Writers Association Freshman of the year... Reached double figures in 16-of-27 games for the season, including a season-best 27 in the Gents upset of nationally-ranked Texas Lutheran on January 31, 87-82... Tallied a pair of double-doubles, with 18 points and a season-best 12 board in a loss against Southwestern January 29... Finished the game two assists shy of a triple-double... Led the team with 3.9 assists per game and was third with 4.7 rebounds per game... Finished second on the team with a 45.0 shooting percentage (104-for-231).

Prior to Centenary: Played both guard positions for head coach James Bailey at Summer Creek HS.

Personal: Born January 23... Son of Kelvin and Chaun Matthews and has four sisters, Trystan, Teyah, Kaelyn, and Kimetria, with one brother, Kyren... At Centenary, majoring in business administration.

SEGUIN, Texas – The Gents Basketball team rallied from a seven-point, halftime deficit to take a lead late in the game, but the Tigers came back from four down to claim the win as third-seeded Centenary (13-13) fell to sixth-seeded Trinity (7-19) 65-63 in the Quarterfinals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Friday night, February 22.

Coming off an easy career high in his penultimate contest in the Gold Dome and a spectacular second half that helped Centenary rally from a double-digit deficit in his final game in the Dome, Matthews grabbed SCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.
