Gents Set For Key Road Conference Weekend
The Centenary men's basketball team returns to the road this weekend as the Gents continue their four-game road trip on Friday with a matchup against the Schreiner University Mountaineers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest set for 7:30 p.m. inside Stephens Family Arena.

The Gents (6-11, 4-4 SCAC) aim to snap a three-game losing streak on Friday against the Mountaineers (12-5, 5-3 SCAC). Centenary dropped a pair of road games last weekend at Colorado College and the University of St. Thomas after falling at home to Southwestern University on Jan. 19. Schreiner, 4-2 at home this season, raced past McMurry University 109-84 on Sunday. Centenary is 1-4 on the road this season.
The Gents are averaging 71.7 PPG, shooting 40.0 % from the floor, 30.7 % from beyond the arc, 74.4 % from the free-throw line, and average 30.4 rebounds/game. Centenary also averages 10.5 assists per game, 6.9 steals/game and 2.6 blocks/game. The Gents have tallied 10+ assists in a game 12 times and done so in six-straight games, recorded double-digit steals six times, and five or more blocked shots three times.
Centenary is the top free-throw shooting team in the conference and ranks 49th nationally in division III, the Gents are 32nd in the country in turnover margin (4.0/game) have forced 288 TO's this season. Schreiner is the top scoring team in the conference (82.6 PPG) and also the top shooting team at 47.9 % from the floor for the season.

The Gents were picked to finish fourth in the conference preseason poll while the Mountaineers were picked fifth. The conference is separated into two divisions this season – the Blue and the Gold. Centenary is currently tied for third in the Blue Division while Schreiner is second in the Blue division.
The top six teams in the conference (top three from each division) will qualify for the SCAC Men's Basketball Tournament, which will be held February 28 through March 2 and hosted by the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas. The winner of that event will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Junior G Quentin Beverly (Katy, Texas) led the Gents with 20 points on Sunday at St. Thomas and was joined in double figures by Greenleaf who scored 13 and senior G Jalen Ned (New Orleans, La.) who scored 12. Collier added six and Addison and freshman G Trenton Thomas (Cedar Hill, Texas) combined for seven. Ned, who played for Schreiner during the first three seasons of his college career and averaged 10.2 PPG, faces his former team on Friday for the first time.
Beverly, who missed the first six games of the season due to injury, averages 18.7 PPG has scored in double figures eight times this season. Greenleaf now has 12 double-digit scoring performances this season (tied for most on team with Collier) and Ned has reached double digits eight times.
Collier had his eight-game streak of reaching double figures snapped as he scored six against the Celts on Sunday. Collier, though, averaged 14.0 PPG over the weekend including a team and game-high 22 points at Colorado College on Friday and has now scored 20+ points eight times this season.
Collier ranks 15th nationally in division III in free-throw % (90.9) as he is an impressive 50-55 at the line and has a chance to set a new season record for best FT % in a single season in program history currently held by Wayne Waggoner (.918, 56-61) in the 1978-79 season.
Centenary's road trip concludes on Saturday evening in San Antonio as the Gents face Trinity University at 6 p.m.
A Glance at this weekend's opponents:
Senior C Kamden Ross is the conference's leading scorer (22.6 PPG) this season and ranks 13th nationally. He has reached double figures in all but one game this season, topped 30 points three times, and has recorded nine double-doubles. Ross is Schreiner's leading rebounder (11.9/game) and ranks second in the conference.

The Gents and Mountaineers played three times last season, with Schreiner winning both regular-season meetings, but Centenary edged Schreiner 76-75 in the SCAC Tournament quarterfinals en route to a tournament title.
Trinity (14-3, 7-1 SCAC) faces the University of the Ozarks on Friday night at home. The Tigers have won eight games in a row and are 5-1 at home this season.
The Gents have lost four games in a row to the Tigers with their last win in the series coming at home by a score of 69-65 on Dec. 2, 2022.
