Ladies Impressive Again On Saturday Versus War Hawks
The Centenary swimming teams completed their season-opening weekend on Saturday against McMurry University in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference dual meet as the Ladies earned a victory for the second-straight day, 107-63, and the Gents fell 131-72, inside Phillips Family Center.
Abilene, Texas - The Centenary swimming teams completed their season-opening weekend on Saturday against McMurry University in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference dual meet as the Ladies earned a victory for the second-straight day, 107-63, and the Gents fell 131-72, inside Phillips Family Center.
On Friday in the season-opening meet the Ladies picked up a win by a score of 95-51 and the Gents were downed, 111-70.
Junior Reece Esser (Huntsville, Texas) led the Ladies with a trio of wins after winning twice on Friday. Esser won the 50 fly (28.24), 50 back (30.29), and 50 free (26.46). Sophomore Isabela Vasquez (Lafayette, La.) recorded two wins – the 50 breast (35.57) and 100 IM (1:13.02). She also earned a runner-up finish in the 200 breast (2:51.68). Sophomore Bailey Allemeier (Altus, Okla.) swam a winning time of 2:36.11 in the 200 back and she teamed with junior Cicely Jackson (Lafayette, La.), Esser, and Vasquez to win the 400-medley relay (4:36.81).
Jackson won the 300 fly (2:43.39) and finished runner-up in both the 100 IM (1:13.32) and 500 free (6:08.89). Allemeier finished third in the 500 free (6:13.51) and was also third in the 50 back (34.08). Junior Kennadi St. Clair (Duncanville, Texas) finished third in the 50 breast (39.77), third in the 50 fly (36.23), fourth in the 200 back (3:35.66), and fifth in the 50 free (30.99).
Freshman Anna Hicks (Lafayette, La.) finished third in the 200 breast (2:59.97) and fourth in the 50 free (30.57) and senior Adriana de la Fuente (Baton Rouge, La.) was fifth in the 50 breast (45.04) and sixth in the 50 back (40.31).
Sophomore Hunter Hedges (Murphy, Texas) won the 50 fly (24.35), sophomore Adam Stelly (Opelousas, La.) won the 500 free (5:09.33) and sophomore Sake Stroderd (Sulphur, La.) won the 50 back (26.97). Hedges was also runner-up in the 50 breast (29.10) and 100 IM (57.21). Freshman Jack Williams (Lafayette, La.) finished as runner-up in the 50 free (23.78) and finished fourth in the 200 back (2:20.54). Hedges, Stelly, Stroderd, and Williams swam the 400-medley relay in a time of 3:46.70 to finish second. Stelly also finished third in the 50 free (23.83) and fourth in the 50 fly (26.44).
Stroderd also finished as runner-up in the 200 breast (2:28.60) and was fourth in the 50 breast (30.87), sophomore Parker Randolph (Shreveport, La.) earned a runner-up finish in the 200 fly (2:14.99), finished fifth in the 200 back (2:28.77), and sixth in the 50 free (26.04). Sophomore Cade Campbell (Ruston, La.) was fifth in the 100 IM (1:08.76) and sixth in both the 200 fly (2:38.47) and 200 back (2:31.61). Junior Ubaldo Ayala (Hallsville, Texas) finished fourth in both the 100 IM (1:04.75) and 200 breast (2:40.56) and sixth in the 50 breast (33.63).
Senior Daniel Lewis (Alexandria, La.) was fourth in the 50 back (29.66) and fifth in both the 500 free (6:05.14) and 50 fly (26.47). Freshman George Arrona (Harlingen, Texas) finished sixth in the 200 breast (3:14.05) and 50 back (33.61) and freshman Kelvin Ridgley Jr. (Zachary, La.) finished sixth in the 500 free (7:46.59).
Centenary will hold its annual Intrasquad/Alumni Meet next Saturday at 1 p.m. inside the Centenary Fitness Center.
