Melissa Reed - 2008-09 - Volleyball

2008: Saw action in 21 sets and eight matches ... Had a season-best seven kills and 11 digs at Western Illinois (Sept. 20) ... Also had three block assists in that same match.

High School: Melissa earned 10 letters at West Franklin High School while earning dual credit from Neosho Community College during her junior and senior years. She played four years of volleyball and basketball to go with a year each of softball and dance. She helped the Falcons to a runner-up finish in sub state in volleyball in 2006 and a sub state title in 2007. Melissa was three times named All-Area in both volleyball and basketball and twice named All-League in each sport. She was selected to the Academic All-League team all four years in high school. She set school records for kills in a career (925) and kills in a season (489) as a senior, with the latter good enough to place her second in the state of Kansas. She led the basketball team in rebounding all four years and was tabbed the team’s Offensive Player of the Year as a senior. Her best single-match and single-game performances include 20 kills in volleyball and 19 rebounds in basketball. She also had a game with seven blocked shots. Melissa excelled in the classroom and was a member of FCCLA, FBLA, National Honor Society, Student Council, and KAY. She held distinguished positions such as editor of the newspaper and yearbook as well as Vice President of the Student Council and FCCLA.

Club: Melissa played eight total years of club volleyball. Her first five seasons were for Midwest Juniors, which was followed by single season stints with the Topeka Juniors, the CK Jets, and Attack Volleyball Club. She helped the CK Jets to Nationals in 2007.

Personal: Born on November 15, 1989 in Topeka, KS, Melissa is the daughter of Carl and Nancy Reed. She has two brothers and one sister. She is a business major with a minor in Spanish, who would like to own her own business someday.
