Centenary Athletics: Weekend Preview (Sept. 3-6)
Centenary will begin its 2021-22 athletics season this weekend as Ladies volleyball, men’s soccer, and women’s soccer are all in action.
Shreveport – Centenary will begin its 2021-22 athletics season this weekend as Ladies volleyball, men's soccer, and women's soccer are all in action.
The Ladies volleyball team will take a unique approach to the start of their season this weekend as the roster will be split evenly, with half of the team headed to the Highlander Invitational hosted by Lyon College in Batesville, Ark. and half participating in the Millsaps/Belhaven Invitational in Jackson, Miss.
The Ladies will face Jarvis Christian at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 3 in the Highlander Invitational to begin the season and then meet host Lyon at 2 p.m. Centenary's matches on Friday at the Millsaps/Belhaven Invitational are set for 1 p.m. against LeTourneau and 5 p.m. against co-host Millsaps.
Saturday's volleyball schedule features four matches (two in each location), beginning with a match at 10:30 a.m. versus College of the Ozarks at the Highlander Invitational, then a match versus co-host Belhaven at Noon in Jackson. The final two matches of the tournaments are at 2 p.m. in Jackson versus Mary Hardin-Baylor and against Mid-America Christian College at 6 p.m. in the Highlander Invitational.

The men's soccer team, the defending Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference champions, led by first-year head coach Kevin White, begin the regular season on Friday, Sept. 3 against the Hendrix College Warriors in the 2021 Hendrix Invitational in Conway, Ark. in a non-conference match set for 7 p.m.
The Gents, who outlasted St. Thomas in a thrilling PK shootout on their home field this past spring in a unique season due to COVID-19, will also meet Rhodes College on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. to wrap up their opening weekend.

The Centenary women's soccer team kicks off its regular season on Friday, Sept. 3 at Southern University in non-conference action in Baton Rouge, La. The Ladies will face the Lady Jaguars in a match set for 6 p.m. at Jaguar Park and then return home to the friendly confines of Mayo Field to face the East Texas Baptist University Tigers on Monday, Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. The Maroon and White are 13-4 at Mayo Field over the last two seasons and went 5-3 at home last season.
