Baseball Blanked In Series Opener On Friday By LeTourneau
The Centenary baseball team was blanked 12-0 in seven innings by LeTourneau University on Friday evening in the opener of a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series at Shehee Stadium.

The YellowJackets jumped all over senior RHP Jacob Broussard (Houston, Texas) for six runs in the top of the first inning but on just three hits as the frame featured three walks and three hit by pitches of which one BB came with the bases loaded to force in a run and one HBP was with the bags juiced to bring in another. Sophomore LHP Carson Dingler (Chandler, Texas) relieved Broussard and walked in a run and then got a lineout to end the inning.
LeTourneau added four more runs in the top of the third and single runs in the fifth and sixth to cruise to the win. Clayton Holt (3-1) started on the mound for the YellowJackets and went the distance to pick up the win. He allowed just two hits in seven innings with four BB and five strikeouts. He faced 28 batters and threw 113 pitches – 67 for strikes.
Broussard was tagged with six runs, all earned, and three hits in 0.2 IP with two BB and one K. He faced 10 batters, hitting three of them, and threw 35 pitches – 15 for strikes. Dingler went 1.2 innings and allowed four runs (two earned) and just one hit with two BB and one K.
Sophomore UTL Ray Busch (New Orleans, La.) was the third Centenary pitcher of the night and went a season-high three innings and allowed two earned runs and three hits with three BB and four K's. He threw four wild pitches and hit a pair of batters. He threw 54 pitches (26 strikes) and faced 17 batters. Freshman UTL Cayson Wilkins (Longview, Texas) pitched the final 1.2 innings and blanked the YellowJackets as he had two BB and one K. He faced six batters and threw 18 pitches – eight for strikes.
Holt had a no-hitter going until sophomore UTL Jebediah Gordon (Spring, Texas) roped a double with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Holt, though, got freshman C Jackson Bunch (Clinton, La.) to ground out to end the inning. Sophomore DH Aron Gillum (Shreveport, La.) drew a walk in the second inning and sophomore CF Blaine Birkelbach (Pearland, Texas) did the same in the third, but Holt worked around those free passes both times.
Birkelbach walked again to lead off the sixth and sophomore RF Noah Paulson (El Lago, Texas) singled to put runners at the corners and just one out. But Holt retired freshman 1B Ethan Hopkins (Baton Rouge, La.) and junior LF Bryce Bienvenu (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) to escape the jam.
The top two batters in the LETU lineup – 2B Austin Wiederhold and 3B Jack Kale, combined to go 2-3 with five runs scored, six BB, and two RBI while RF Jonah McDaniel was 1-4 with two RBI, a run scored, and a BB.
LF Zach Baker was 0-2 with a run scored, a stolen base, and a BB, C Blake Vice was 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and 1B Cody Brady finished 2-5 with an RBI and a run scored. CF Max Frels went 1-4 with a run scored and SS Giancarlo Melendez was 0-3 with an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored.
LETU finished with seven hits, nine BB, seven strikeouts, 10 left on base, and made one error. Centenary, held to just the two hits, drew four BB, struck out five times, left seven men on base, and made two errors.
