DENTON, Texas - Two days after receiving First Team All-American honors on floor, junior Navia Jordan turned in a second stellar performance in the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships Even Finals Sunday afternoon, April 15.
Performing seventh among 11 gymnasts on the apparatus, Jordan received two 9.900 and two 9.850 scores from the four-judge panel. According to a live blog done by NCAA Gym News:
"Big lunge on double pike, she is so elegant and dancey. Switch ring to tj1/2 is beautiful, Front lay front 1/2 split punch front, and just beaming through the good bits of her choreography. This is stunning. Rudi to amazing straddle jump. AMAZING."
Also, Centenary assistant gymnastics coach Morgan Leachman was named USAG Assistant Coach of the Year. As a volunteer assistant, the only other Ladies coach beside head coach Jacki Fain, she helped a relatively young team see its regional qualifying score rise towards the end of the season. Near the end of the year, the Ladies went 190+ in team scores in four of five meets - never breaking 190 in the first six meets of 2018.
Individually under Coach Fain and Leachman this season, the Ladies claimed a trio of All-American accolades: First Team for Jordan (floor) and junior Tavia Smith (all-around), and Second Team for freshman Sierra Ponder (bars).
