Gents Dominate Spalding On Senior Day

The Centenary lacrosse team set a program record for goals in a game on Friday as the Gents recorded a dominant 23-2 victory over the Spalding University Golden Eagles on Senior Day at Mayo Field.

Shreveport- The Centenary lacrosse team set a program record for goals in a game on Friday as the Gents recorded a dominant 23-2 victory over the Spalding University Golden Eagles on Senior Day at Mayo Field.

The Gents (1-5, 1-1 HCLC) set a single-game program record for goals and recorded their first win of the season. The Golden Eagles fell to 0-8 and 0-2 HCLC with the loss. Centenary topped 20 goals for the first time in program history. The Gents' previous single-game record was 18 in an 18-8 win at Dallas on April 24, 2021.

Centenary scored just over a minute into the game and never looked back, taking a 6-0 lead after one quarter and scored six more in the second period to lead 12-1 at halftime. The Maroon and White scored eight times in the third period and three times in the fourth to polish off a comfortable victory.

Senior M/A Kyle Comi (Allen, Texas) scored the Gents' first goal at the 13:45 mark in the first quarter and proceeded to score four more times and added three assists for a memorable Senior Day performance. Senior John Mark Waniewski (Bossier City, La.) tied his single-game career high with seven goals, and sophomore A G'Colby Spivey (Dallas, Texas) and sophomore A Braxton Parchman (Shreveport, La.) each scored three.

Senior A/MF Mark Temple (Houston, Texas) and freshman A Liam Johns (Shreveport, La.) each scored two and freshman MF Seven Davillier (Shreveport, La.) scored his first-career goal. Spivey matched Comi with three assists, Parchman and Temple each had two, and Johns added one assist. Sophomore GK Dylan Miller (Shreveport, La.) made his first-career start and picked up his first win as he went the distance and made five saves.

Centenary finished with 48 shots to just 15 for Spalding, and collected 39 ground balls to Spalding's 15. The Gents won 17-29 face offs and went 39-42 on clears. The Gents' defense forced the Golden Eagles into 34 turnovers while committing 20. John Kelly played the entire match in goal for Spalding and made 11 saves.

The Gents will play their final home game of the season on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Earlham College. The match is the Gents' "Alumni Spotlight" game as several former Gents will be recognized at halftime.
