Miguel Vasquez Named SCAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Centenary junior Miguel Vasquez (Lafayette, La.) has been selected the SCAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during the meets swam Friday, January 22 to Sunday, Sunday January 24.
Lawrenceville, Ga. - Centenary junior Miguel Vasquez (Lafayette, La.) has been selected the SCAC Men's Swimmer of the Week for performances during the meets swam Friday, January 22 to Sunday, Sunday January 24.
Vasquez helped lead the Gents to a victory against Austin College and a second-place finish to McMurry at the Austin College Double Dual meet last weekend in Sherman, Texas, winning the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 52.96 and winning gold in the 100-yard freestyle, hitting the wall in 47.85. Vasquez also swam a leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay team that turned in a time of 1:44.44.
"Miguel had a great meet and really performed at a high level", said head coach Brad Langford. "We as a staff are really happy with his recovery from last year's ACL surgery and feel he will be ready to help in a big way at the SCAC championships in a few weeks."
The junior from Lafayette was named to the 2019-20 SCAC Academic Honor Roll and has multiple all-conference honors in his career. He also holds the top time in program history in the 100-yard backstroke as he swam the event in a time of 50.66 on Feb. 15, 2019 at the SCAC Championships and also holds four additional top 10 times all-time in Gents history in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, and 100 fly.
The Gents finish their season at the SCAC Championships Feb. 10-13 in San Antonio.
