Men's Swimming Fifth after Day One at SCAC Championships
The Centenary men's swimming team completed day one of competition at the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships inside the Bill Walker Natatorium on Thursday afternoon.
San Antonio, Texas - The Centenary men's swimming team completed day one of competition at the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships inside the Bill Walker Natatorium on Thursday afternoon.
The Gents are currently in fifth place overall with 85 points. Trinity is the leader with 321 points, Southwestern is second with 226, Colorado College sits in third place at 174, and McMurry University is just ahead of the Gents in fourth with 87 points. University of the Ozarks (71) and Austin College (52) are sixth and seventh respectively. Centenary is looking to earn its second-consecutive top-five finish in the event after placing fifth last season with 305 points.
Junior Ricky LaFleur (Lafayette, La.) had the Gents' best individual finish of the day as he placed 10th in the 200 Yard IM, swimming a time of 1:59.60. His teammate and fellow junior Mitchell Lulich (New Orleans, La.) finished just behind him in 11th place with a time of 2:00.41. Senior Augustin Cayere-Lopez (Hammond, La.) finished 28th in the 50 Yard Freestyle, swimming it in a time of 24.08 and Gents freshman Tony Barbee (Plaquemine, La) placed 29th with a time of 24.20.
Centenary's team of junior (Miguel Vasquez (Lafayette, La.), LaFleur, Lulich, and senior Chris Reese (Alexandria, La.) finished third in the 400 Yard Medley Relay, swimming a time of 3:33.13 in the finals. Vasquez, Barbee, LaFleur, and Lulich teamed in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and swam a time of 1:28.61 to finish fourth.
