Gents Return To Action On Saturday In Austin College Invitational
The Centenary men's and women's swimming teams will compete in the Austin College Invitational against the host ‘Roos on Saturday at the Hannah Natatorium.
Sherman, Texas - The Centenary men's and women's swimming teams will compete in the Austin College Invitational against the host 'Roos on Saturday at the Hannah Natatorium.
Centenary was scheduled to host Millsaps last Saturday but the meet was postponed so this will be the first action for the Maroon and White of the new year and first since a home meet against Hendrix on Nov. 13.
The Ladies lost a close battle, 140-134, while the Gents dropped a 186-81 decision. The meet was Centenary's second-straight at home following its home opener back on Oct. 30 versus McMurry University. Centenary recorded an impressive 11 individual wins on Saturday and one team win as the Gents claimed the men's medley relay in a time of 1:47.74.
Three Gents claimed wins versus Hendrix as senior Mitchell Lulich (New Orleans, La.) won the 100 breast as he swam a time of 1:05.39, sophomore Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.) swam a time of 56.69 to win the 100 fly, and senior Tripp Montgomery (New Iberia, La.) won the 50 breast with a time of 29.88. Those same three teamed with freshman Cash Coats (Andrews, Texas) to claim the win in the 200 medley relay.
On the men's side, Lulich placed third in the 200 free (1:58.18), Coats was third in the 50 breast (31.61), Freshman Nathaniel Batiste Jr. (Vacherie, La.) finished fifth in the 50 breast (32.99), and sophomore Jules Reny (Lille, France) finished fourth in the 500 free (5:54.56) which was a season-best time in the event and fifth in the 200 free with a time of 2:07.54. Sophomore Aiden Peterkin (Zachary, La.) finished fourth in the 50 back (32.36) and sixth in the 50 fly (29.22).
Barbee was named the SCAC Men's Swimmer of the Week on Nov 17 for the first time in his career after his impressive all-around performance versus Hendrix. He swam a season-best time of 56.69 to win the 100 fly and also finished third in the 50 fly (25.82) and fourth in the 100 free (53.47). Barbee was also a member of a pair of relay teams that finished first and second. He teamed with three others to win the 200 medley relay (1:47.74) and was part of a team that earned a second-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:39.09).
