Swimming Caps Busy Weekend With Third-Place Finish At Hendrix Meet
The Centenary swimming teams finished third with a combined 1,256 points this weekend in the "Mid-Season Invitational" hosted by Hendrix College at Bob Courtway Pool.
Conway, Ark. - The Centenary swimming teams finished third with a combined 1,256 points this weekend in the "Mid-Season Invitational" hosted by Hendrix College at Bob Courtway Pool.
The Ladies tallied 459 points and the Gents recorded 797 points as they competed against the host Warriors and University of the Ozarks. Hendrix won the meet (1810 points) followed by Ozarks (1542 points).
Junior Reece Esser (Huntsville, Texas) continued her impressive season with three individual wins as she won the 50 free (25.11), 100 free (55.47), and 100 fly (59.98) and also finished as runner- up in the 200 back (2:23.18). Esser now has 11 wins this season.
Sophomore Hunter Hedges (Murphy, Texas) recorded a pair of individual wins - in the 400 IM (4:34.12) and 100 breast (1:02.64) and now has eight this season. He was also runner-up in the 100 back (56.36) and third in the 200 IM (2:06.09).
Sophomore Bailey Allemeier (Altus, Okla.) won the 1650 free (19:45.24), was runner-up in the 500 free (5:40.97), and finished third in both the 100 back (1:08.68) and 200 back (2:17.83). Freshman Anna Hicks (Lafayette, La.) finished fourth in the 200 free (2:19.21), was fifth in both the 100 breast (1:23.99) and 100 free (1:02.23), and finished sixth in the 200 IM (2:32.46).
Sophomore Adam Stelly (Opelousas, La.) won the 200 fly (2:04.78), was runner-up in the 100 fly (54.22), and was third in the 500 free (5:05.82). He also finished seventh in the 50 free (23.77). Freshman Jack Williams (Lafayette, La.) was runner-up in the 200 free (1:51.85), third in the 50 free (22.98), and finished fourth in the 100 back (1:03.48)
Junior Ubaldo Ayala (Hallsville, Texas) finished fifth in both the 200 breast (2:33.69) and 400 IM (5:08.33) and seventh in the 100 breast (1:09.06). Sophomore Parker Randolph (Shreveport, La.) finished third in both the 400 IM (4:51.90) and 200 fly (2:09.86), sixth in the 100 fly (56.85) and eighth in the 200 IM (2:20.37).
Junior Cicely Jackson (Lafayette, La.) finished fourth in the 200 fly (2:35.90) and fourth in the 500 free (5:50.73), sophomore Isabela Vasquez (Lafayette, La.) recorded a pair of third-place finishes in the 200 breast (2:44.72) and 100 breast (1:16.16), was seventh in the 200 IM (2:37.22). and seventh in the 50 free (27.95).
Sophomore Cade Campbell (Ruston, La.) finished sixth in three events - 200 fly (2:24.40), 100 free (57.18), and 400 IM (5:12.52), and sophomore Jordan Jerrigan (Temple, Texas) was fifth in the 200 fly (2:18.38), seventh in the 100 fly (1:00.64) and eighth in the 500 free (5:48.07).
Senior Daniel Lewis (Alexandria, La.) was fifth in both the 100 back (1:04.15) and 200 back (2:13.74) and eighth in the 100 fly (1:01.11). Freshman Kelvin Ridgley Jr. (Zachary, La.) was seventh in the 100 free (1:01.10) and freshman George Arrona (Harlingen, Texas) finished seventh in the 100 back (1:10.58)
The Ladies' team of Allemeier, Esser, Hicks, and Jackson finished third in the 800 free relay (9:05.19) and the men also finished third in the event, as Hedges, Stelly, Randolph, and sophomore Sake Stroderd (Sulphur, La.) swam a time of 7:41.47. In the men's 200 medley relay, the Gents' team of Hedges, Lewis, Stelly, and Williams swam a time of 1:44.50 to finish third and Ayala, Arrona, Jerrigan, and Randolph were fifth (1:59.15). On the women's side in the 200 medley relay, Allemeier, Esser, Jackson, and Vasquez finished fourth in a time of 2:07.01.
The team of Allemeier, Esser, Hicks, and Jackson swam a time of 4:01.86 to finish third in the 400 free relay and the Gents had two teams compete in the event as Hedges, Lewis, Stelly, and Williams swam a time of 3:27.44 to finish third and Ayala, Campbell, Jerrigan, and Randolph were fifth (3:44.70).
The Ladies finished third in the 400-medley relay (4:43.83), swam by Allemeier, Esser, Hicks, and Jackson and were also third in the 200 free relay (1:48.25) and swam by Allemeier, Esser, Jackson, and Vasquez. The Gents' 400-medley relay team of Hedges, Lewis, Stelly, and Williams finished third (3:53.93) and the team of Ayala, Campbell, Randolph, and Ridgley Jr. finished fifth – 4:14.27.
The team of Hedges, Lewis, Stelly, and Williams combined to swim a time of 1:33.46 to finish third in the 200 free relay and Arrona, Ayala, Randolph, and Jerrigan were fifth in the 200 free relay (1:42.35).
The Ladies and Gents will return to action in the Austin College Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 10 in Sherman, Texas.
