Lake Charles, La. - The Centenary College STUNT team opened its 2026 season in the McNeese Tournament on Sunday as the Ladies played three matches against the host Cowgirls, Texas Woman's University and Texas A&M University-Kingsville inside The Legacy Center.
In game one, Centenary faced off in an 8-round game versus Division 1 McNeese. While the Ladies were unable to score on the hosts, the team set new program firsts by playing the entirety of the third quarter and fourth quarter jumps and tumbling, a place where the Ladies had to give away several automatic points last season.
"I was really proud of how the team came out game one," said head coach Kaylee King. "With over half our team being first-year student-athletes, they needed to see a game and what exactly it is they have been working for. It's one thing to watch it on a screen and another to see it in person. They put out solid material for the first game and played their game which was all we had been asking for from them all preseason."
Notable players for game one were junior Leah Dawson (Shreveport, La.) and junior Dalila Ramirez (Austin, Texas) for partner stunts. Ella Wilson and junior J'Anna Sweat (Pitkin, La.), for pyramids and tosses. Amelia Jones and KaNeya Hatcher-Davis for jumps and tumbling. Lastly, junior Kaitlynne Anderson (Carlisle, Pa.) was a notable stand out for quarter four.
In game two, the Ladies saw a familiar face in Division II opponent Texas Woman's. During the 8-round game, the Ladies only took the floor five of the eight sections due to routines being called by the Pioneers that were above playable routines for the team.
"We showed great improvement in just the short amount of time we had to work things between game one and two. The Ladies really applied a lot of critiques given and it was apparent that they put in the work to grow in their skill and make needed improvements."
Players to note for game two include freshman Kelsey McPherson (New Orleans, La.) for Partner stunts, junior Ezmeriah Gonzalez (Longview, Texas) and sophomore Bryanna Hutcherson (Normangee, Texas) for pyramids and tosses and Dalila Ramirez and freshman Ella Wilson (Shreveport, La.) for jumps and tumbling.
To round out the day, Centenary played its final match-up versus Texas A&M Kingsville and were able to place their first season points on the board by going within two for pyramids and tosses two and within two for quarter four pyramids and tosses two.
"By game three, the team had picked up momentum. Kingsville played a tough match-up, but they were also more on our level as a second-year team. Finally putting points on the board definitely lit a fire under our Ladies as we lead into our home games next week."
Key players for game three were freshman Kim Davis (Leesville, La.) and senior Jo Hoffman (Ragley, La.) for partner stunts, freshman Ja'Kyra Allen (Pelican, La.) for pyramids and tosses and Ezmeriah Gonzalez and Leah Dawson for jumps and tumbling.
"Overall, it was a great opening weekend for the team. It's hard to describe in a sport where either there is a point awarded or not and not a cohesive stat sheet to really represent growth to an outsider, but as a program, we can see the improvements made just within these three games on day one."
MATCH ONE SCORE: 12-0 vs McNeese
MATCH TWO SCORE: 11-0 vs TWU
MATCH THREE SCORE: 13-3 vs Kingsville
