Waddell's School Record Swim Leads Ladies To Sixth-Place Finish At SCAC Championships
The Centenary swimming teams completed four days of competition at the annual Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at the Garland ISD Natatorium as the Ladies recorded a sixth-place finish and the Gents finished seventh.
Garland, Texas - Freshman Hannah Waddell (Shreveport, La.) swam a new school-record time in the 200-yard breaststroke as she helped lead the Ladies to a sixth-place finish at the annual Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday at the Garland ISD Natatorium.
The Centenary swimming teams completed four days of competition at the Championships as the Ladies improved from a seventh-place finish last season and the Gents finished seventh, doing so for the third time in a row. The Ladies and Gents were joined this week by Austin College, Colorado College, McMurry University, University of the Ozarks, Southwestern University and Trinity University for the four-day event.

Trinity claimed wins on both the men's (1,08 points) and women's (1,112 points) side. The Ladies finished with 247 total points as they were seventh after Wednesday's first day of competition with 60 points, picked up 56 points on Thursday to move into fifth place and picked up 64 more on Friday and were four points ahead of sixth-place Austin College headed into Saturday's final day. The Ladies picked up 67 points on Saturday to edge Austin College by a single point. The Gents finished the week with 161 points, well ahead of eighth-place St. Thomas (32 points).
Freshman Hannah Waddell (Shreveport, La.) had Centenary's top finish of the day as she placed fourth in the championship final of the 200-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 2:27.70 after swimming a new school-record time of 2:24.99 in the prelims.
Junior Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) capped her impressive Ladies' career with a fifth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle as she swam a time of 18:32.33.
Senior Antonio Barbee (Plaquemine, La.) recorded the Gents' top individual finish of the day as he placed eighth in the championship final of the 200-yard butterfly, swimming a time of 2:02.74. Freshman Ubaldo Ayala (Hallsville, Texas) recorded a top-10 individual finish in the championship final of the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:38.03 to finish 10th.
The Ladies and Gents each earned sixth-place finishes in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the Ladies' foursome swam a time of 3:51.49 in the finals and the Gents finished in 3:27.84.
