The Gents assisted the Grace Home in its recent remodeling by moving in furniture for the terminally ill residents. With Centenary's support, this in-patient hospice was able to complete its task of supplying a welcoming atmosphere for those patients who have little time to live.
"It is always a pleasure to give back to the Shreveport community, especially the Grace Home this year. The team really enjoys volunteering in the community during the off season and always looks forward to building relationships off the baseball field," said head coach Mike Diaz.
Located adjacent to the CHRISTUS Schumpert Saint Mary Place campus, Grace Home was founded in 1996 as a 16-bed residential hospice designed specifically for care of the terminally ill. At the time of its opening, Grace home was the first community residential hospice in Louisiana. It is now one of three in-patient hospices in Louisiana and the only one in Northwest Louisiana.
The Gents will open the 2012 season at home when it hosts Hendrix in a double-header on February 4, beginning at Noon at Shehee Stadium.
