SHREVEPORT, La. - The Gents surrendered a goal early in the game and the 'Roos added an insurance score late in the contest as Centenary (0-1-2, 0-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) dropped its home opener, 2-0, Friday night at Mayo Field.
Neither team really threatened in the first 10 minutes of the game until Thomas Quick scored in the 11th minute to put Austin College up 1-0. Centenary only managed a shot on goal the entire first half.
Senior goalie Kaleb Behm grabbed five saves, but surrendered a second half goal to fall to 0-2-1 for the year.
Jack Wheaton led the 'Roos with six shots, but made his only attempt on target count when he found the back of the net in the 78th minute. Joseph Khalaf (3-1) made a save late in each half for his first shutout of the season.
Centenary returns to action Saturday, September 9, when it hosts East Texas Baptist. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
