Gents Set To Compete In East Texas Invitational
The Centenary men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the East Texas Invitational hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Commerce, Texas – The Centenary men's and women's track and field teams will compete in the East Texas Invitational hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Saturday's meet begins at 8 a.m. with running events followed by men's field events at 9 a.m. and women's field events at 10 a.m. The last scheduled event of the day is the men's High Jump at 6 p.m.
The Ladies and Gents were last in action at the Dan Veach Invitational hosted by Southern Arkansas University on March 26 in Magnolia, Ark. Centenary combined for three top-15 individual finishes, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the men's 800 meters by sophomore Devante' Jack (Jena, La.) as he ran a season-best time of 2:00.68. Jack finished just 14 seconds behind winner Rickey Logan of Southern Arkansas.
Senior Veronica Dougherty (McAllen, Texas) had the Ladies' top individual finish of the meet as she placed sixth in the women's 800 meters, running a time of 2:46.82. Junior Sydney Bascomb (Mesquite, Texas) recorded a pair of top-20 finishes on Saturday as she ran a time of 13.76 in the 100 meters to finish 15th and placed 17th in the 200 meters with a time of 28.48.
Sophomore Coby Harris (Lafayette, La.) finished in a tie for 22nd in the 100 meters with a time of 11.79 and was 34th in the 200 meters, running a time of 24.79. Senior Payton Lii (Dallas, Texas) finished 36th in the 100 meters (12.56) and 37th in the 200 meters (24.50). Freshman Deandre Gonzales (San Antonio, Texas) finished 31st in the 100 meters (12.32) and 40th in the 200 meters (26.04).
Centenary earned six top-five finishes in the Jim Mize Invitational hosted by Louisiana Tech University on March 19 in Ruston. Freshman Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) turned in the Ladies' top individual performance of the meet with a second-place finish in the 800 Meters (2:49.30). Dougherty was right behind Vacula in third place with a time of 3:03.04.
Bascomb finished fifth in the 400 Meters (1:09.37) and a pair of freshmen - McKenzie Williams (Stonewall, La.) and Caroline Simpson (Baton Rouge, La.) placed fifth and sixth respectively in the javelin as Williams' throw measured 18.20m and Simpson's was 16.95m. Vacula placed seventh in the 1500 Meters and Dougherty finished ninth (6:25.95).
On the men's side, Harris had the best finish of the meet for the Gents as he placed fourth in the 100 Meters with a time of 11.85. Freshman Gabriel Aragon (Forney, Texas) tied for fifth with a time of 11.97. In the 200 Meters, Harris place sixth (24.28) and Aragon tied for seventh (24.53). Jack finished seventh in the 800 Meters (2:03.94).
Centenary opened the season on March 12 in the Hendrix Alumni Open in Conway, Ark. Aragon had Centenary's top finish by placing seventh in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 12.05 while senior Payton Lii (Dallas, Texas) finished 12th (12.39).
On the Ladies' side, Vacula placed 22nd in the women's 800-meter dash with a time of 2:55.04 and Dougherty finished 24th (2:56.50). Vacula finished 24th in the women's 1500-meter dash with a time of 5:39.19 and Dougherty finished 34th (6:08.60).
