Ladies Eyeing Postseason Berth In Final Weekend Of Regular Season
The Centenary softball team completes its regular season on the road this weekend as the Ladies will face the Schreiner University Mountaineers in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play beginning on Saturday with a doubleheader set for Noon at Mountaineer Softball Field.

Kerrville, Texas – The Centenary softball team completes its regular season on the road this weekend as the Ladies will face the Schreiner University Mountaineers in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play beginning on Saturday with a doubleheader set for Noon at Mountaineer Softball Field.
The series between the Ladies (17-19, 12-14 SCAC) and Mountaineers (9-29, 6-21 SCAC) will conclude on Sunday at Noon.

Centenary is battling for one of the final berths into next weekend's SCAC Championship in Georgetown, Texas. The top six teams in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the SCAC Tournament and the Ladies are currently sixth. The Ladies are two games behind McMurry University for fifth place and .5 games ahead of Southwestern University. Centenary swept Southwestern this season and lost two of three to McMurry. The Ladies have made eight-consecutive SCAC Tournament appearances.
Centenary has a .276 team batting average with a .358 OBP and is slugging .346 with 10 home runs, 46 extra-base hits, and 334 total bases. The Ladies have scored 162 total runs and average 4.5 per game with nine games of 10+ hits. The Ladies scored a season-high 11 runs against McMurry on April 11 and have scored eight or more runs in a game eight times and 10 or more three times.
Schreiner won two of three last weekend at Southwestern but entered the series on a 13-game losing streak. The Mountaineers, 5-10 at home this season, are hitting .266 this season with a .336 OBP and are slugging .321. Schreiner has scored 115 runs and has 45 extra-base hits but no home runs. The Ladies swept the Mountaineers at home last season.
The Ladies are looking to bounce back from a road sweep last weekend against Trinity University in San Antonio, falling 4-0 and 3-1 last Friday in a DH and then 6-0 in the series finale on Saturday.
Senior P/UT Emma Shepherd (Athens, La.) is ranked third in the conference in innings pitched (103.0) and seventh in strikeouts (67) and is 8-7 with a team-best 2.72 ERA. She has made a team-high 23 appearances and 11 starts and tossed six complete games. Senior P Anna Scarbrock (Alexandria, La.) is 7-6 with a 3.41 ERA in 17 appearances and a team-high 13 starts. She has a team-best seven CG's and has thrown three shutouts. In 76.0 IP, she has walked just eight batters and struck out 23.
Senior C/1B Abby Touchet (Shreveport, La.) has been one of the conference's top offensive players all season and is tied for eighth in the league in RBI (26) and is hitting a team-high .396 with a .496 OBP and is slugging .623. She has a team-leading 42 hits, has belted a team-leading five home runs, has a team-high nine doubles, and has scored 16 runs. In 106 at-bats she has only struck out seven times while drawing 19 walks.
The Ladies can match last season's win total with one victory this weekend and a sweep would give them their most since winning 20 in the 2018 season.
