Ladies Set For Austin College Invitational On Saturday
The Centenary men's and women's swimming teams will compete in the Austin College Invitational against the host ‘Roos on Saturday at the Hannah Natatorium.
Sherman, Texas - The Centenary men's and women's swimming teams will compete in the Austin College Invitational against the host 'Roos on Saturday at the Hannah Natatorium.
Centenary was scheduled to host Millsaps last Saturday but the meet was postponed so this will be the first action for the Maroon and White of the new year and first since a home meet against Hendrix on Nov. 13.
The Ladies lost a close battle, 140-134, while the Gents dropped a 186-81 decision. The meet was Centenary's second-straight at home following its home opener back on Oct. 30 versus McMurry University. Centenary recorded an impressive 11 individual wins on Saturday and one team win as the Gents claimed the men's medley relay in a time of 1:47.74.
Senior Brianna Serret (Alexandria, La.) led the way for the Ladies as she claimed three individual victories in the 50 fly (27.88), 100 fly (100.78), and 100 back (101.76). Serret now has six individual wins this season through her first three meets and has earned a pair of runner-up finishes. Her time in the 100 fly was a season best. She was named the SCAC Women's Swimmer of the Week following her impressive performance versus Hendrix, earning the weekly honor for the second time in her career.
Freshman Madeline Vacula (Belton, Texas) won the 200 free (2:03.68) and 500 free (5:28.82) on Saturday as she continued her superb start to her collegiate career. Vacula now has four individual wins and three runner-up finishes in her rookie season. She also finished third in the 100 back (1:05.12) on Saturday.
Senior Madelyn Frederick (Slidell, La.) won the 50 breast with a time of 34.11, fellow senior Margot Frost (Prairieville, La.) claimed the 200 IM (2:26.40), and junior Jojo Goodman (Alexandria, La.) swam a time of 1:16.50 to win the 100 breast.
Centenary also recorded nine individual second-place finishes and an impressive 36 top-five finishes on the men's and women's side combined. Goodman placed second in the 50 breast (35.05), Frost was second in the 100 fly (1:04.63) behind her teammate Serret, junior Camryn Hebert (Youngsville, La.) recorded a runner-up finish in the 200 free (2:15.21), and Frederick finished second in both the 50 free (26.81), and 100 breast (1:16.60).
Junior Katie Malicoat (Wichita, Kan.) finished second in the 100 free, swimming a time of 1:02.35 and placed third in the 100 breast in a season-best time of 1:17.51. Sophomore Anacelia Galeano-Balam (Baton Rouge, La.) finished third in the 100 free (1:03.49) and fifth in the 100 fly (1:07.78). Sophomore Bryn Jenkins (Houston, Texas) finished third in the 50 back, swimming a time of 31.41 and placed fifth in the 100 back (1:08.31).
The Ladies' foursome of Frost, Goodman, Serret, and Vacula finished second in the 200 medley relay (1:56.54) while the team of Frederick, Galeano-Balam, Jenkins, and Malicoat finished third at 1:59.14. Centenary finished 1-2-3 in the 50 breast, and earned the top two spots in the 200 free, 100 fly, and 100 breast.
