Men's & Women's Track & Field Selected as "Team of the Week"
The Centenary men's and women's track and field team teams have been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week" after they had an impressive weekend at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Seguin, Texas.
Shreveport – The Centenary men's and women's track and field team teams have been selected as Centenary Athletics' "Team of the Week" after they had an impressive weekend at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Seguin, Texas.
Freshman Gabrielle Malagarie (Lafayette, La.) highlighted the championships as she recorded a runner-up finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.52m to earn All-SCAC honors in the event. The rookie earned the Ladies' best finish in program history in the conference championships as she ended her impressive debut season on a high note.
The three-day event, hosted by SCAC member Texas Lutheran University, featured the Ladies and Gents along with the host Bulldogs, Concordia University, Colorado College, the University of Dallas, LeTourneau University, McMurry University, University of the Ozarks, Schreiner University, Southwestern University, the University of St. Thomas, and Trinity University.
Freshman Grayson Shugart (McKinney, Texas) earned an eighth-place finish in the triple jump on Saturday (10.24m) as her top-10 finish and Malagarie's runner-up helped the Ladies finish eighth for the weekend with eight total points. The Gents finished 12th.
In the women's long jump, sophomore Mackenzie Haley (Orange, Texas) matched her season best (4.62m) and was 17th, and Shugart placed 22nd with a season-best 4.50m.
Freshman Jay Scott (Slidell, La.) had an impressive meet as he finished ninth in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 12.25m. Scott also finished 19th in the long jump (6.01m) and 25th in the 100-meter dash (11.06).
Sophomore Christian Cormier (Lafayette, La.) had the Gents' top finish in the prelims of the100 meters (10th) with a career-best and school-record time of 10.69 as he just missed qualifying for the finals.
Freshman Phillip Hughes (Bossier City, La.) ran a time of 52.60 to finish 25th in the 400-meter dash, sophomore Bryan Washington (Wylie, Texas) was right behind him in 26th place (52.68), and freshman Clayton Hancock (Buna, Texas) finished 30th in a time of 52.89. Sophomore Herman Pride (Baton Rouge, La.) was 26th (5.77m) in the long jump.
