The Centenary golf teams will play host to their annual home tournament, the Hal Sutton Invitational, on Monday and Tuesday at The Golf Club at Stonebridge.
Bossier City, La. - The Centenary golf teams will play host to their annual home tournament, the Hal Sutton Invitational, on Monday and Tuesday at The Golf Club at Stonebridge.
The men's and women's field will play 18 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday for a total of 36 holes. The men will be challenged by a par 72, 6,851-yard layout and the women will be tested by a par72, 5,814-yard course.
Temperatures in the Shreveport-Bossier area are expected to dip just below freezing on Sunday evening and provided the frost on the course is manageable in the morning, play is expected to begin around 9 a.m.
The men's field is comprised of the host Gents, Belhaven University, Blinn College (A/B Teams), Hardin-Simmons University, Jacksonville College, Millsaps College, Texas Lutheran University, and Tyler Junior College. The women's field includes the host Ladies, Blinn, Hardin-Simmons, Mississippi College, TLU, and Tyler.
The Gents earned a runner-up finish in last season's abbreviated event while the Ladies placed fourth. Severe weather and heavy rain made the course unplayable on day two as the men's field completed 27 of their scheduled 54 holes while the women's field played just 18 of their 36 expected holes.
The Gents finished ninth last week at the Pinecrest Invitational in Longview, Texas as they finished at 105-over par 963 (314-323-320). Junior Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.) earned a runner-up finish as he finished one shot shy of his first-career individual title. Bennett shot a final round 2-under par 70 to finish at 1-under par 212 for the week and one shot behind individual champion Bryson Thurston of host LeTourneau University (2-under par 211).
Bennett shot even-par 72 in round one and a 2-under 70 in round two. Thurston shot a first-round 3-over 75 and then fired consecutive 68's to edge Bennett for the win. Bennett now has one runner-up, a top five, and four top-10 finishes in his career.
Freshman Jeffrey Borchert (Katy, Texas) earned the Gents second-best finish at 34th place after shooting 74-80-82 – 236 (+23) for the week. Bennett and Borchert will be joined in the Gents' lineup this week by senior Devan Martin (Watson, La.), junior Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.), and freshman Hahn Bridges (Sterlington, La.).
Sophomore Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.), freshman Colton Mayer (Heath, Texas), and freshman Parker Christensen (Castle Rock, Colo.) will each play as individuals.
Freshman Kaylee Roberts (Watonga, Okla.) and junior Madison Wing (Bossier City, La.) will play as individuals for the Ladies this week. Roberts played as an individual in the Pinecrest as she was the lone member of the women's golf team to compete and finished 17th overall at 74-over par 218.
