The No. 3 seed Centenary women’s soccer team lost a heartbreaker, 1-0, in overtime to the No. 2 seed Southwestern Pirates on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2019 SCAC Women’s Soccer Championship at Varsity Field. The Ladies (16-3, 7-3 SCAC) and Southwestern (16-4, 7-2 SCAC) played their second overtime in a matter of seven days following a 2-1 victory by the Pirates this past Sunday in double overtime at Mayo Field in the regular-season finale for both teams. The Pirates earned the No. 2 seed this weekend despite the teams tying for second place by virtue of that 2-1 victory.
The No. 3 seed Centenary women’s soccer team blanked the No. 6 seed Schreiner Mountaineers, 1-0, in the quarterfinals of the 2019 SCAC Women's Soccer Championship hosted by Southwestern University at Varsity Field on Friday in what was a historic win for the Centenary program. The Ladies improved to 16-2 overall and 7-2 in SCAC play and with the victory, set a program record for wins in a season in any era, division 1 or division III.
The Centenary women's soccer team continued its stellar regular season on Friday as the Ladies edged Texas Lutheran, 2-1, in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match held on Senior Night at a frigid Mayo Field. The Ladies (15-1, 6-1 SCAC) won their fifth-straight match and are undefeated at home (8-0) this season. Centenary also clinched no worse than the No. 3 seed in next week's SCAC Women's Soccer Championship in Georgetown, Texas hosted by Southwestern. The Ladies will either be the No. 2 or 3 seed and that will be determined after Sunday's regular-season finale against Southwestern (14-4, 5-2 SCAC) at Noon at Mayo Field. Southwestern defeated St. Thomas, 3-0, on Friday in Houston.
The Centenary women’s soccer team will face the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs on Friday in a critical Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match set for 5 p.m. at Mayo Field. Friday is Senior Night for Centenary and six Ladies; Betza Bravo (Katy, Texas), Migui Boldrin (Ribeiaro, Brazil), Emilee Byrd (Shreveport), Serena Gallegos (Katy, Texas), Gabby Lovemore (Natchitoches, La.), and Kyra Montes (Shreveport) will be honored in a special pregame ceremony starting at approximately 4:45 p.m. The Ladies (14-1, 5-1 SCAC) are currently tied for second in the conference standings with the University of Dallas, just behind leader Trinity (6-0).
Centenary’s Gabby McDonald was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for games played through Sunday, October 27th. McDonald, a sophomore defender/midfielder from Pasadena, Texas, earned the honor for the first time in her young career. She was a lock down defender this past week for the Ladies as she helped lead her team to three victories including a pair of road conference wins last weekend over the University of Dallas and Austin College.
